How The Alliance is narrowing the gender divide

Nissan Foundation promotes cultural diversity through awards to nonprofits
Gender diversity in the workplace is a hot topic in boardrooms across the globe. But at The Renault-Nissan Alliance we don’t just talk about it… we practice what we preach.

Did you know that in 2013 women accounted for 15.4% of Alliance management positions globally – and that’s greater than the percentage of women holding executive officer positions in Fortune 500 companies?

It's a trend that’s going to rise.

The Alliance already leads the rest of the auto industry when it comes to the number of women holding senior executive management level posts.

At Renault, two of the ten-member executive committee are women, and the company is a long time supporter, sponsor and participant in the Women’s Forum.

At Nissan, meanwhile, the percentage of women managers is more than double the national average for large manufacturers and sets the industry benchmark in Japan.

It’s not just at the executive level that gender equality is important. In Brazil, Renault has 50% more women employees at all levels than it did five years ago and the number of female workers on the assembly lines has doubled in the same period.

We are doing well, but our challenge is to do better. We could do worse than take inspiration from China, where 60% of CFOs are women, or from emerging markets in general where 30% of senior executives are women compared to 20% in G7 countries.

At the Alliance, we embrace diversity. Differences make us stronger.
