Introducing the Alliance EVs at Rio+20

Welcome to Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where the Alliance is running an EV shuttle service for the United Nations delegates. Close to the RioCentro Convention Center where most of the high-level Rio+20 talks are taking place, you will find the HSBC Arena. This is where Nissan LEAF, Renault Kangoo Z.E. and Twizy are on display and where you can sign up for a zero-emission test drive.

Here is Mia Nielsen introducing our activities in Rio.

Can we still sign up for a test drive in Rio? I would love to have an electric little car. Will they be available in this country and are there any tax advantages? Thank you.

Hello Tonia,

Thank you for your interest in our electric cars. Unfortunately, we just finished our test drives in Rio.

We believe Brazil offers great opportunities for the EV. Last year, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Sao Paulo to study the introduction of EVs on a large scale and in June this year, Nissan announced a LEAF EV taxi project with the city.

In Brazil, as in any other country where we intend to introduce EVs, we need government incentives and tax reductions to stimulate demand. For us to bring our EVs to Brazil would require a significant reduction in the import tax or the elimination of the tax altogether to make the cars affordable for customers.

Kind regards,

The Alliance team
