Nissan LEAF joins leaves in London's parks

London’s parks are havens of peace and tranquillity in the centre of a bustling, noisy city. Stand in the middle of Hyde Park and you could be in the countryside.

Now they are going to be even quieter as The Royal Parks has added the first electric cars to its fleet – a pair of Nissan LEAFs.

The LEAFs, which will be used in administrative roles, join a number of conventionally-powered 4x4s, pick-ups, vans and estate cars. One will be based at Hyde Park and the other at St James Park.

Dave Jordan, assistant park manager, said: “Electric cars are ideal. They’re quiet and, of course, don’t emit any fumes. Their range is easily enough to cover journeys to and from the farthest parks we manage, in Richmond and Greenwich.”

Underlining their ‘green’ credentials both Nissans have been finished in the distinctive livery of The Royal Parks – dark green.

*The cars were supplied by leasing firm Alphabet, which has delivered more than 60 EVs to city-based companies in the last six months. “EVs project exactly the right public image at a time of rising concern about air quality in our cities,” said the firm.
