Renault signs new innovation partnership with French Scientific Research Centre
Paving the way for new innovations in sustainable mobility, Renault has renewed its research partnership with France’s CNRS (National Centre for Scientific Research). The four-year agreement, signed on the 15th of May, will see the two partners exploring a variety of themes around sustainability, including virtual reality, ergonomics, neuroscience, new materials and catalysis.

Renault's constant quest for innovation regularly leads it to work with experienced public research bodies, with the two parties focusing their combined efforts on engineering sciences and systems such as combustion, fatigue of materials, thermal engineering and aeroacoustics. Such partnerships have helped Renault's R&D team develop innovative vehicle architectures, including hatchbacks and MPVs, and invent industry-first models such as the Twizy and the ZOE.

The CNRS has been a close partner since 1993, and the new agreement reflects the changing landscape of sustainable mobility and defines the roles of each partner.

Since 2010, around 100 contracts have been signed between Renault and the CNRS, involving labs all over France. Furthermore, the CNRS's Information Processing and Communication laboratory works closely with Renault to research the future of passenger transport and electric motoring. Suffice it to say that we can expect plenty of innovations from Renault in the years to come.
