Take a Twizy trip around the New Forest

The New Forest is one of the largest areas of outstanding natural beauty in England, 566 km2 (216 sq. miles) of unenclosed pastureland, heathland and forest. A haven for walkers, cyclists and horse riders, it attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.

But now, thanks to Renault, there’s another way to get about this beautiful and historic area in South West England – Twizy.

Tourists arriving at the main Brockenhurst railway station can now rent Renault’s revolutionary two seater electric vehicle for just £49 a day, all in. And with no emissions at the point of use, they won’t be harming this glorious environment.

Visitors can explore New Forest safe in the knowledge that a network of 20 charge points is already in place at pubs, hotels and B&Bs, restaurants, holiday parks and attractions so they can top up Twizy’s 62 mile range while enjoying what the area has to offer.

Best of all, as the Twizy is not strictly a car, it can be used on the Forest’s 240km (150 miles) network of cycle paths.

Stephen Vine from New Forest Environmental which operates the Twizy fleet, said: “Twizy is designed for urban areas, but we’ve found a role for it as a fun recreational vehicle in the countryside. It’s enjoyable, adventurous and will introduce the benefits of electric vehicles to our visitors.”

Although it’s called New Forest, it’s actually far from new. Planting was started by King William I – William the Conqueror – in around 1079 and was recorded in the Doomsday Book as Nova Foresta in 1086. Among the area’s many attractions is the world famous National Motor Museum at Beaulieu… how long before Twizy takes its place there alongside other motoring pioneers?
