Students and staff at the University of Hertfordshire in the UK now have easy access to low-cost, zero-emission transport, thanks to a new car-sharing service from E-Car Club. The all-electric car club has just launched the country's first University-based EV rental site with an initial fleet of two Renault ZOEs and a Renault Fluence Z.E.

Situated just north of London, the University of Hertfordshire provides designated parking places and charging points for each of the vehicles on its two campuses. The EVs can be rented by students, staff or locals who are E-Car Club members.

Once they've signed up, members can make a reservation online or by phone, and access their vehicle using their personalized smart card and secure code. Cars can be rented for as little as an hour or as long as several days, with prices beginning at £5.50 (€6.70) per hour.

Committed to delivering hassle-free EV transport, E-Car Club looks after the insurance, maintenance, cleaning and taxation of its vehicles, and offers its services to anyone over the age of 19. Co-founder Chris Morris says he is confident the new University site will prove popular and is ready to increase the number of vehicles as demand dictates.
