Already recognised for its leadership in sustainability, the Renault ZOE now has award-winning style – following the presentation of a prestigious Red Dot Product Design Award earlier this month.
The international Red Dot Awards are recognised as a benchmark of quality in the design world, with top companies from all over the planet competing for honours. This year's 37-strong jury looked at some 4,662 entries in 19 different categories before selecting the Renault ZOE as the winner in the Electric Passenger Car category. The award ceremony took place on July 1 at the celebrated Aalto Theatre in Essen, Germany.
The ZOE joins some stylish company, with previous Red Dot Award winners including the Twizy in 2012 and the Mégane II in 2003, and was particularly commended by the jury for its powerful sense of innovation. Red Dot founder and CEO Professor Peter Zec explained that: “The winners of the ‘Product Design 2013’ Red Dot awards are the protagonists of a highly developed design culture and design industry."
Renault also picked up a Red Dot award in the Trade Fair Stand category for its show stand known as "The Bump". Based on the concept of motion, the stand features a curvaceous layout and two inclines, where vehicles are displayed on a rotating platform. The stand was first showcased at the Paris Motor Show in 2012 and is due to tour the world over the next two years.
