Deep beneath the earth, 100 miles south east of Nashville, Tennessee, lies a marvel of nature. The Cumberland Caverns, which stretch for more than 27 miles/43 km, are among the largest caves in the world. And now they’ve become the latest proving ground for Nissan LEAF.
Carved out by nature over the past three million years, the Caverns are a mecca for visitors, adventurers… and for music fans from all over America.
Every month, stars from the Grand Ole’ Opry head underground to record the Bluegrass Underground radio show in front of a live audience, taking advantage of the pure natural acoustics of the Volcano Room, a subterranean amphitheatre 333 ft/101 m below the surface. Fans say it’s like attending a concert inside a recording studio.
Carrying musicians and tons of equipment down there has traditionally been done by petrol-powered 4x4s, but pollution was threatening to damage the natural beauty of the place. And that’s when Nissan LEAF stepped in.
Celebrating the fact that it is soon to be built in Tennessee not far from the Caverns, trips down to the Volcano Room are now undertaken in near silence by zero emission Nissan LEAF.
