The electric vehicle: celebrating five years of progress

The electric vehicle: celebrating five years of progress
Concept Twizy in 2009 and production Twizy today

Towards the end of 2009, zero-emission electric cars were little more than concept cars. At that year’s Frankfurt motor show Renault displayed four electric prototypes - the Fluence, Z.E sedan, the Kangoo Z.E van, the Twizy tandem two-seater and the ZOE subcompact… but that’s all they were: ideas. Electric cars were an utopian dream, something for the sci-fi magazines.

Nissan e-NV200: the game-changer

Nissan e-NV200: the game-changer
Nissan continues to pioneer the electric vehicle sector with the introduction of the Nissan e-NV200, which brings unprecedented refinement, with zero emissions and ultra-low running costs to the compact van segment. With this entry, Nissan will be the first automaker to have two all-electric vehicles in its global line-up, joining the Nissan LEAF, the world's best-selling EV.

Combining the best elements of two multi-award winning vehicles - Nissan LEAF and Nissan NV200, past World Car of the Year and International Van of the Year respectively - e-NV200 is ready to change the face of light commercial vehicles forever.

Nissan LEAF completes London to Edinburgh trip in record time
Two British drivers recently completed an EV trip from London to Edinburgh significantly faster and at a considerably lower cost than the same journey three years ago – demonstrating just how far EV technology has come.

At the end of January, EV enthusiasts Robert Llewellyn and David Peilow took just over 13 hours to drive their Nissan LEAF from Marble Arch in central London to Edinburgh castle in Scotland, a journey totalling 655km (407 miles). In 2011, the same trip took David 18 hours.

Renault-Nissan Alliance cocoa hut
Guess who I bumped into on the street in Davos the other day…..? Well, actually last week at the annual World Economic Forum my job was to bump into people on purpose, in order to explain the virtues of the LEAF-to-Home technology that allows us to harness the electricity in a Nissan LEAF battery - in this case, to heat cocoa drinks.

Why Nissan LEAF is giving Davos visitors a warm glow

Why Nissan LEAF is giving Davos visitors a warm glow
What could be better than a cup of hot chocolate as the temperatures drop close to freezing… especially when it’s free? How about a free cup of hot chocolate made without needing to draw power from the grid at peak times?

That’s just what’s happening at the 2014 World Economic Forum in Davos this week, as Nissan displays its unique LEAF-to-Home technology. Instead of plugging the hot chocolate maker into the mains, it is powered by an all-electric Nissan LEAF using the energy stored in the car’s batteries.

A temple priest reflects on his Nissan LEAF

Three years ago, Anyo-in Temple’s Chief Priest Wasei Hirai was one of the first people to take home a Nissan LEAF electric car, and this month he sat down with Nissan’s Global Media Center to reflect on EV ownership as global LEAF sales reach 100,000, with a new customer halfway across the world in the UK.

Hirai, who has driven his LEAF 12,000 kilometers, says the car fits perfectly with his ancient temple’s philosophy of innovation and its messages about the environment and way of life.
