Renault-Nissan Alliance team: We are here with Anthony Lo, who is responsible of exterior design at Renault. What is Renault showing at Geneva?
Anthony Lo: We have the second and third concept cars, after the DeZir, in a series that shows our new design strategy.
The first is Captur, a car that expresses central form and simplicity but also expresses a lifestyle… it’s for when you want to go outdoors and play.

RNAT: The colours are very striking!
AL: Yes, it has a shiny body with a matte finish in the front portion that gives you a sense of protection. And the roof has a special removable hardtop which turns the concept into a convertible.

RNAT: That’s unusual. What is its purpose?
AL: Once the hardtop is removed you will see a skeleton made of carbon fibre so even though you have a feeling of open air you still have a good sense of protection. In this car you are going to do a lot outdoors and you don’t want to feel unsafe.

RNAT: Could you tell us a little about the other concept car?
AL: Ah, the Renault R-space. This is a family car concept. It has a mono body and a lot of emphasis on space. What is very new about this car is the large windscreen with a graduated panoramic roof that slowly turns into a cosy cocoon for the rear passengers.
The rear compartment is adaptable to the different needs for the family, especially for the children.

RNAT: What do these concepts tell us about future Renaults?
AL: On both Captur and R-Space we are trying to explore new ideas that can eventually be applied in future production cars. For example the front end design. We have started a new premium identity this year which we will use on every car. You can see a different interpretation of this identity on the R-Space and the Captur.

RNAT: Thank you Anthony.

The Renault concept cars at the geneva show best exemplify the family car concept. It is a wonderful design by Anthony Lo, which includes renault parts such as a large windscreen with a graduated panoramic roof that slowly turns into a cozy cocoon for rear passengers.
