Europe can breathe more easily, thanks to Renault

The need to reduce CO2 emissions was the main thrust behind the development of Renault’s pure electric vehicles.

But Renault’s determination to reduce the emissions from right across its range of cars hasn’t stopped with EVs. Advanced engineering and state-of-the-art know how has seen a dramatic reduction in the emissions produced by its petrol and diesel-powered cars.

And all that hard work has now been recognised: Renault is officially the cleanest manufacturer in Europe. Based on sales in Europe in the first half of 2013, Renault cars produce an average of just 115.9g/km per vehicle… that’s a fall of almost 10g/km over the same period in 2012, to put the company in pole position.
The improvement is down to the rejuvenation of the company’s model line-up… and, of course, the increasing importance of Renault EVs such as ZOE, Kangoo Z.E. and Fluence Z.E.

The company now has five conventionally-powered models producing less than 100g/km – Twingo, New Clio, Captur, Mégane and Dacia Sandero with the Clio Energy dCi 90 eco2, for example, producing a class leading 83g/km.

According to Jean-Philippe Hermine, Director, Environmental Plan for the Renault Group: “The position of market leader is proof that our powertrain strategy – with our range of Energy engines – and our electric vehicle strategy is bearing fruit. These improvements are beneficial for both the planet and our customers.”
