As far as Americans are concerned the Nissan LEAF is the best car on the market, bar none. Not only that, it’s America’s most environmentally friendly car, too.

Don’t take our word for it (we are, we admit, slightly biased). These are the verdicts of the respected Automotive Science Group, which has assessed more than 1,400 Model Year 2015 cars and SUVs on sale in the States.

The all-electric Nissan LEAF was declared the Best All-Around Performer, winning the general classification title as well as driving away with the mid-size segment class. It was also declared the overall Best Environmental Performer.

It won the accolades for its combination of environmental, social and economic performance. The 2015 study also found the Nissan LEAF to hold the smallest carbon footprint of any MY 2015 automobile available in the States, measuring its impact in terms of its gross energy requirements and greenhouse gas emissions across its life-cycle.

The report added: “While the electricity mix of the US grid varies by region, the average forecasted mix for 2015 will provide an energy source for the Nissan LEAF that is environmentally preferred over conventional combustion engines. Looking forward, energy forecasts identify a cleaner electricity mix across the US grid, further increasing the environmental benefits of electric technologies in future years.”

While the Alliance is absolutely delighted to have earned such praise, we are not really all that surprised. After all, Nissan LEAF was declared ASG’s Best All-Around Performer in 2014, too. Can we make it three in a row in 2016?
