Renault in the spotlight at Cannes

Question: which is the odd one out – Jean-Louis Trintignant, Isabelle Huppert, Angelina Jolie, new Bond girl Bérénice Marlohe, the Renault Fluence Z.E.

Answer: none of them (it’s a trick question!). All are starring at the 65th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, in the South of France.

Renault has had a long association with the world’s most famous film festival and has been the sole official car maker partner for almost 30 years. But this year is different as the stars are being whisked up to the red carpet in emission-free silence courtesy of a fleet of Renault Fluence Z.E. saloons.

Renault Fluence Z.E. is not the only all-electric Renault at La Croisette, either. The unique Renault Twizy urban runabout is taking centre stage at the Orange Beach, where a special collector’s version – signed by the biggest names in the film industry – is basking in the spotlight.

Renault Twizy and Renault Fluence Z.E. are among more than 250 Renault cars – including the Renault Latitude and new Renault Mégane CC Floride Cabrio – performing transport duties in Cannes this year.

Renault is no stranger to the silver screen. One of the earliest films from the pioneering Lumière Brothers featured footage of Louis Renault at the wheel of his Type A voiturette.

Today, Renault supports a range of film festivals, including San Sebastian, London and Deauville as well as Cannes, and also backs the Académie des arts et Techniques du Cinéma, the organization behind the César awards. Renault also has a pro-active policy of partnership and product placement with film makers all over the globe – last year, Renault vehicles appeared in almost 300 feature films and shorts.
