Nissan commits to an electric future

No-one should doubt Nissan’s commitment to zero emission mobility and to the electric car. That was the message coming loud and clear from Nissan Executive Vice President Andy Palmer at the Paris Motor Show this week.

As he revealed the TeRRA, an advanced fuel cell electric SUV concept, to journalists from all over the world, Palmer forecast that ‘in less than a generation’s time, there will be millions of EVs on the roads.’

He revealed that sales of the multi award winning Nissan LEAF were not only on track but were a huge success with the people who really mattered – customers: the car has a satisfaction rate among owners of a remarkable 95 per cent.

There are already 150,000 charging point in the US and 15,000 across Europe to date with more on the way, he said, adding that Nissan is developing wireless charging, too.

And he had one story that really does underline the march of the electric vehicle. In Norway, one of the most EV-friendly countries of all, a teenager has just passed her driving test in a LEAF. More to the point, she has never in her life driven a petrol or diesel car. The future is closer than we think.
