Staying safe with Nissan Note

You’re driving along the motorway, heading for a much needed holiday in the sun. It’s been a long day and you’re tired after working so hard for the past few months.

You close your eyes momentarily… or at least that’s what you think. In fact, you’ve been ‘asleep’ for a few seconds and when you wake with a jerk you realize the car is no longer safely in its lane but drifting across the motorway towards the central barrier. An accident is avoided – but only just.

You were lucky. According to research, driver inattention accounts for 78 percent of accidents and near-accidents. But if Nissan has anything to do with it, that figure will soon start to drop.

For the company has made its sophisticated Lane Departure Warning (LDW) system available on the new Nissan Note, as part of the Safety Shield portfolio.

Some existing LDW systems can get confused on narrow country lanes and can be triggered prematurely if differences in lane markings across Europe are not taken into consideration.

The new Nissan system, however, adapts to different types of roads and conditions by analyzing footage from the Around View Monitor camera and data from its safety systems. By knowing whether the car is being driven on a country road or a motorway, it will alter the warning alerts accordingly. Advanced algorithms can even detect the difference between a deliberate lane change and an unintentional one.

LDW is just one safety system available on Note, and is joined by Blind Spot Warning and Moving Object Detection… all premium features making their debut on a B-segment car. Find out more here.

Have a happy (and safe) holiday.
