World Food Programme and International Committee of the Red Cross to experience the 100% electric Nissan LEAF for 6 months

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and Fleet Forum today handed over a 100% electric Nissan LEAF to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the World Food Programme (WFP), signaling the start of the Electric Vehicle Demonstrator Programme.

Electric cars are not the future, they're now at Rio+20

From June 13 to June 22, the Renault-Nissan Alliance was in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for Rio+20 to demonstrate that EVs are a real and affordable solution for sustainable transportation. The Alliance ran an EV shuttle for the UN delegates and had its EVs on display at the HSBC Arena where the public could sign up for test drives.

On June 18, Toshiaki Otani, Managing Director for the Renault-Nissan Alliance Battery Business, met with Brazilian media in the morning before attending a UN co-sponsored conference on electric mobility at the headquarters of Electrobras Furnas, the largest renewable energy maker in Brazil.

At the “Global Forum on Electric Mobility: Greening Transport for Sustainable Development,” Mr. Otani spoke about the arrival of the age of zero-emission mobility and the need for the public and private sector to work together for a sustainable transport future.

Renault-Nissan Alliance & United Nations partner for Zero-Emission mobility at Rio+20

A fleet of electric vehicles from the Renault-Nissan Alliance will shuttle United Nations delegates at its Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro, the world’s largest environmental summit.

The conference, which runs from June 13-22, marks the first time the UN will use a dedicated zero-emission car fleet for shuttling its delegates. 

More than 50,000 delegates, including 400 from the UN, are expected to attend the summit - nicknamed “Rio+20” - to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the United Nations’ Earth Summit in Rio, where countries agreed to a blueprint for economic growth, social equity and environmental protection.

The Alliance EVs in Rio

Zero-emission vehicles will have a role to play at the upcoming United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development - also known as Rio+20 - in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

From June 13-22, a fleet of electric vehicles from the Alliance - Nissan LEAF, Renault Kangoo Z.E. and Renault Fluence Z.E. - will be used for shuttling UN delegates in and around the city. The vehicles will also be made available to the delegates for test driving.
