US utility companies invest in the multiple benefits of EVs

Utility companies in the USA have committed to investing in electric vehicles as both a means of transportation – and a potential solution for power outages. While the all-electric vans will mainly be used to transport staff and material for routine work, their batteries could also be used as an emergency electricity supply during blackouts.

Don't be afraid of the motorway

I live in Les Yvelines, in the suburbs of Paris, and work in the 14th arrondissement. That's a round trip of 80 km (50 miles), a lot of it by motorway and the périphérique. So obviously the moment I started taking a serious interest in electric cars, I immediately checked out their range and what they were like to drive on major roads.

The electric vehicle: celebrating five years of progress

The electric vehicle: celebrating five years of progress
Concept Twizy in 2009 and production Twizy today

Towards the end of 2009, zero-emission electric cars were little more than concept cars. At that year’s Frankfurt motor show Renault displayed four electric prototypes - the Fluence, Z.E sedan, the Kangoo Z.E van, the Twizy tandem two-seater and the ZOE subcompact… but that’s all they were: ideas. Electric cars were an utopian dream, something for the sci-fi magazines.

Séverin Groisne: Portrait of an EV owner in Paris, France

Last month, the Alliance sold its 200,000th electric vehicle – by far more than all major automakers combined. To capture what the first 200,000 owners love about their EVs, the Alliance has launched a series of videos featuring EV owners on three continents. “I Made the Switch” tells why people bought their electric vehicles and how switching to a zero-emission vehicle has changed their lives. In our second video, we travel to Paris, France to meet with Séverin Groisne, CEO of a digital agency and owner of a Renault ZOE. To see his video, click here, or watch it below.
