Renault’s electric supermini ZOE will launch across Europe in the coming months. The vehicle, which was designed from scratch as an electric vehicle,  is produced at the Flins plant in France on the same line as the Clio.  The manufacturing process for ZOE is similar to that for an internal combustion engine car – with a few exceptions. Low energy tyres are a key to ZOE's optimised range

Low energy tyres are a key to ZOE's optimised range

ZOE, Renault’s latest pure electric vehicle, has an advanced drivetrain and a powerful battery pack. It has a highly efficient regenerative braking system and clever heat pump which minimises energy losses. All help to give ZOE an outstanding real world range of between 100-150kms and a homologated range of 210kms.

But one of the biggest reasons it can travel further on a full charge is down to its tyres. Tyres account for as much as 30 per cent of the energy consumed by an electric powertrain so the key is a tyre which reduces energy consumption.

ZOE: a star is born

ZOE: a star is born

Parisians love ZOE! The latest pure electric vehicle to hit the streets, Renault ZOE has been one of the undoubted highlights of the Paris Motor Show, which runs until 14 October in the French capital.

As the show opened to the public we asked a few visitors what they thought of the car… and the verdict was hugely positive. They like the looks, the light and airy interior and the technology.

But most of all they love the fact that it produces zero tailpipe emissions. As one visitor said: “I’m thinking of buying one, as the environment is a big thing for me.”

Let's (not) hear it for the Renault ZOE

Winning an award or two would normally be something to shout about… but the all-electric Renault ZOE supermini does everything in silence. So we’ll just have to whisper that ZOE has won a pair of ‘green’ awards.

The Next Green Car Awards 2012, run by the UK’s leading eco-conscious motoring website, has hailed the zero-emission Renault ZOE as its top supermini, highlighting its ‘impressive’ acceleration and ‘normal’ prices.
