The Alliance At a glance

The Alliance in numbers

• In 2009 the Renault-Nissan Alliance sold 6.1 million units for a 9.8% global market share. This makes the Alliance the fourth largest automotive group worldwide.

• Renault sales were 2,309,188 and Nissan 3,358,413 units (Nissan reported 3,515 million units in FY09) and AvtoVAZ (Lada) sales totaled 417,457 units.

Most enduring partnership in the auto industry

The Alliance gives Renault and Nissan a unique competitive edge in the global auto industry and played a critical role guiding both companies through the 2008/09 economic crisis. The Alliance has not been a takeover by one company of another. The partners are equal and operate through a uniquely successful structure. Why? Because the Alliance is different; Renault and Nissan respect each other, respect each other’s cultures. Future strategies are currently being planned with the long-term aim to deepen the synergies further and react faster to opportunities.

New opportunities with Daimler

The Alliance in April announced a broad strategic co-operation with Daimler that will cover a wide range of projects as well as sharing of best practices. Projects include Renault and Daimler working together on next generation small cars: The Renault Twingo and smart fortwo, including electric versions as well as expanding both model ranges. There will also be powertrain sharing and co-development on future projects across both passenger cars and light commercial vehicles. The two groups also announced an equity exchange that gives the companies a cross-shareholding.

Start of production in India

On March 17, 2010 the first dedicated Renault-Nissan Alliance plant in Chennai, India was inaugurated. The first vehicle to be produced at the plant is the new Nissan Micra which is also the first model derived from the V-platform. The Micra will be sold in India and exported to more than 100 countries in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. In 2011 the plant will start production of the Renault Koleos and Fluence, both for the Indian market. Further models are planned over the next four years.
